Description DigInfo - (http://movie.diginfo.tv) NSW, a company that develops computer hardware, software and various IT solutions, has developed Gesture Recognition Software which can recognize the shape and color of the operator's hand and can differentiate the movement of the hand from other moving objects in the background. NSW is considering using this as an input method for controlling computers and other electronics through the use of motions and gestures. With just a simple USB camera, the system can register the target hand's shape and color and once identified, the system will continually follow the movements of the target. The whole system has a 65% percent tolerance so if the hand is within 65% of the original shape and color of the target then the system will register the gesture. The system can also be taught to follow a different color and shape quickly. Not only minute gestures but large movements of the hand are also registered which provides a wide variety of possible commands and does not require the target to maintain one position for recognition. Using a USB camera connected to a single board computer running Embedded Linux, the system can be used to control many different types of electronics such as the robotic arms of industrial machines or household products like fans or audio equipment. NSW is planning to improve this system so it can not only recognize movements and gestures but also analyze them.
