Description
Since they didnt manifest a video guy for my graduation dive, I had a video credit left over. With no formal training outside of my certification I wanted to have this video to replay my experiments, tighten my turns, stops, and repair my seriously lacking delta tracking.
See this chronological narrative.
Begin as the camera man climbs outside the plane into position.
I am pleased that I am smiling. Its good to know that my body likes this thing called skydiving.
Ready setty spaghetti.
Chris my videographer didnt want me to do too many tumbles out of the plane for fear of me getting too far away from him.
Some stability corrections i.e. trying not to flip over as im falling down "the hill." I now know that the hill is when my direction changes from forward movement leaving the plane to straight down. Its like a hill. Hence the name.
First a position change to get the sun glare out of the camera and get the good light on me. Notice that just after I give the thumbs up I look down and then smile. Thats when my gum flew out of my mouth. I instinctively look down for the chewing gum as it flew out just as i watched it whizz by me. Chewing gum flies upwards as it falls much slower. I wonder how fast chewing gum falls. Oops! :)
My first turn: timid and the stop is sloppy with floppy legs and the wrong knee down.
Second turn. I feel I may have nailed it. I need more turns like that. Throw down my opposing knee for harder stops. After watching this video I now know I can engage turns in the same fashion. You can even see me cognizantly bringing my knees together. There was focus.
Third turn was fun, two hard spins and of course a sloppy turn stop. Its those floppy legs again.
Next trick failed, I applied both forward motion and backward motion. Very superman like however highly ineffective while skydiving.
Time for a barrelroll / dive spin thingy. I like that one. Its not a proper barrel roll but i think it looks cooler and more dolphin like.
Then time for some funny faces and gratuitous flicking off of the camera.
Then while trying to align myself to jump parallel from the jump run I forgot everything i learned in skydiving school and decided to flop around on the air pressure until I was perfectly parallel to the jump run.
Shoddy Delta Track, I need to straighten my body out. Put my legs together and straight. And arms farther back in the shape of a delta triangle.
My waveoff look both ways and pull is smokin tho!
My landing: Flared a little too high luckilly I was able to reach down with my toe and not eat dirt. :) Very fun.
