This film is meant to both highlight the value of conservation and to inspire fascination and curiosity with Nature. This is achieved by briefly contrasting the industrialized southern lakeshore of Lake Michigan with two nearby national parks (Cowles Bog National Natural Landmark and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore) and by exhibiting the beauty and diversity of the parks in two hikes recorded in Autumn 2007 and Spring 2008. The hikes begin in Cowles Bog and follow a trail out to the lakeshore, displaying selected flora and fauna along the way. The tone of the film is meant to be celebratory as opposed to purely informative. The ultimate purpose is to promote continued conservation and protection of the Indiana Dunes and Cowles Bog by presenting the beauty of these under-appreciated dynamic ecosystems to a wider audience.
