Description From http://GamblersTelevision.com Tony T here from Gamblers Television covering the NFL "Vegas Style" all season long. Minnesota is coming off an 8-8 record in 2007 and it was a year where they fell 1 game short of making the playoffs. It was a disappointing close to the season and the Vikings dropped their final two games and failed to make the postseason. Rookie running back Adrian Peterson led the NFL in rushing last season as he ran for 1341 yards while averaging 5.6 yards per carry. The defense was stingy against the run but poor against the pass. Quarterback Tavaris Jackson showed some flash but made some poor decisions throwing the football last season. Oddsmakers have set the Minnesota Vikings projected win total for the 2008 season at 8 ½ wins. Schedule: Minnesota has the fourth toughest schedule this season. Playing in the NFC North it means 2 games against the Packers, Lions and Bears. The NFC North faces the AFC South & NFC South this season and the Colts will visit Minny as well as the Texans. The Vikings have tough road games against the NFC South as they travel to New Orleans and Tampa Bay. Road games against the AFC South will be tough physical battles against Tennessee and Jacksonville. As a second place team in the NFC North last season they face NFC second place finishers the NY Giants at home while traveling to Arizona. The Vikings will face good defenses this year and they will be in tough and physical battles. Offense: Adrian Peterson had a great rookie season and coupled with Chester Taylor makes them the best 1-2 tandem in football. Taylor could be a starter in this league. Peterson tore a ligament in his right knee last season and failed to rush for over 100 yards and averaged only 2.66 per rushing attempt in his last 4 games. Despite being 8-4 as a starter Tavaris Jackson will need to improve upon his 8 touchdowns and 12-interception performance from a year ago. There is no doubt the Vikings will be facing much better rushing defenses this year and Jackson will need to make plays in the passing game for the Vikings to improve on their 8-8 season. Wide receiver Bernard Berrian will help the vertical passing game and was acquired through free agency. It will be difficult to stack the box against the Vikings with a deep threat now in their repertoire. Bobby Wade gives the Vikings good work lining up in as a slot receiving and led the team with 54 receptions last season. Defense: The Minnesota defense was #1 against the run in 2007 giving up an average of just 72 yards per game and only 3.1 yards per gain. They Vikings addressed a weakness in their pass rush by acquiring Jared Allen from the Kansas City Chiefs. They were last in pass defense last season. Also hoping to improve in their passing defense the Vikings spent big bucks on Madieu (Madoo) Williams who is a solid cover safety. Defensive lineman Kevin Williams and Pat Williams are huge contributors against the run. The defense remains solid but the offense may force them on the field a little more in 2008. And now to my Selection: If Minnesota played this schedule last year they would be a 6-10 team instead of an 8-8 team. They also caught a break playing the Chargers with a first year quarterback making his first start on the road in a dome. And don't forget when defensive lineman Luis Castillo went down early in the game and left it changed the whole complexion of the Charger game. Minnesota does not beat San Diego with Luis Castillo in the lineup in the second half. The Vikings have had problems scoring against Green Bay. The Vikes have only put up 40 points in their last 4 games against the Pack and are 0-4 under the Mike McCarthy era in Green Bay. The Vikings also have 3 series of back-to-back road games with New Orleans, Jacksonville and Arizona on the back end of those. I am not convinced that Tavaris Jackson can get this team to 9 wins against this schedule. Jacksonville, Tennessee, Indy, Tampa and Green Bay all possess good defenses and you cannot be one dimensional against them. Their road schedule is brutal. Play Minnesota under 8 ½ wins for the 2008 regular season. Play UNDER 8 ½ wins for the 2008 season. Selection: wins in 2008 Regular Season.
