Description
We show how multi-touch gestures can be used to perform typical basic spatial tasks within a Geographic Information System (GIS). The work is motivated by recent developments in interactive surfaces that enable the construction of low cost multi-touch display based on the principle of frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR). These displays are capable of sensing fingers, hands, and whole arms, allowing for a much richer interaction than traditional Windows-Mouse-Icon-Pointer- based (WIMP) interaction styles that traditional GIS offer. These surfaces have great potential for the exploration of geospatial content in an easy and natural manner, especially for non-expert users. Contact: J.Schoening(at) uni-muenster.de (c) ifgi 2008
We will soon release it as an open source project. The Nasa World Wind Java SDK and the Tracking SDK are already open source.
