Description
Breaking news(or possibly breaking wind)
youtube world exclusive.........The story so far.
date 19th june 07
On the 18th june residents of Chilkwell street in Glastonbury, Somerset, UK,
(home of the Glastonbury festival which is 7 miles up the road)
Woke up to find that overnight a large work of graffiti, or vandalism, had appeared on a white wall next to a herb garden which overlooked the main road to Pilton.
The word on the street is that its a genuine Bansky!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksy
It is unsigned and I am told by a local talented graffiti artist that Banksy signs his work!
The circumstancial evidence is strong.
Bansky's home town is the city of Bristol, 30 miles away.
There are examples of his graffiti in the city of Wells which is 7 miles away.
And apparently another smaller piece in another location in glastonbury.
The style is totally like Bansky!
It is a proffesional piece of painting, nothing amateurish about it.
The weeds against the wall in front of the teddy bear have not been disturbed or broken!
if it was vandalism there would be paint all over the pavement, not a drop m'lud!
If it turns out to be a Bansky then it will instantly be shapeshifted from an act of vandalism into a national treasure and tourist attraction! and the property on which the graffiti sprayed will increase dramatically in value!
If it isnt a Banksy then its still a fine piece of public art!
The real vandalism is the busy traffic that roars through a quiet rural town, demolishing whatever character the place may have!
The timing seems to be suspiciously designed to coincide with the Glastonbury festival! with just enough time for the media to get hold of the story and spread the word so that the 10,000's of festival goers who will be driving past that very same wall in a few days will slow down to see tha Banski mural thereby causing huge traffic jams and tailbacks!
We will see.
The fate of this public art now hangs in the balance!
The police are investigating.....
Special thanks to Mike, Adam and Anna, my informants!
and to Elisabeth with an S from Holland who played the violin on the market cross in the town.
